Habitat of hippo and where they come from
A hippo would be happiest in it's home land of Africa. That's where they started out and most hippos are still there. But then there are some in zoos.

Most live in areas with a lot of grass, but with a swamp or lake near by. They like to go into water so they can cool off and swim. But the water has to be deep enough for them to swim. Since they live on land and in water, they are considered amphibious. Underwater, they can also walk or run along the bottom. They keep their ears pressed down flat and their noses plugged just by using tiny muscles in their nose. They can stay underwater for about 6 to 8 minutes until they need to come up for air. |
